the bag metaphor

Context:

A society that teaches you that you need to have a bag to survive.

Growing up in a society where people are identified by the type of bag they own, you automatically enter the rat race of competing relentlessly for a bigger bag, a better bag, a nicer bag, a more expensive bag. There are really only two ways of dealing with the bag struggle; you either ride the tide, become a rat, and compete, or you decide you aren’t a rat and that it isn’t your race. Riding the tide is spending your life trying to afford the bag without giving it much thought. Deciding to be different however, is to stop, take a step back, and question whether you need a bag in the first place.

The bag is a metaphor.
